Lombok

October, 2009

Desert sand, a grainy, golden beach...
left winded
rippled from rain.
Desert dunes by sea
shallow and absolutely still. .

I neared the expanse before me and stood in awe at the unlikely, raw beauty before me.
A couple of women fished up to their knees. They used nothing more than a stick with some line tied on the end. The scene seemed to move in slow motion. Stillness and surrender. An almost forlorn countenance appeared about them. Perhaps, they were simply committed to the moment, indifferent to outcome and shifting sands.

Rain clouds hovered in
Sands shifted
and still the sand gleamed golden.
